Captive Power Plants

These are power plants that are built and operated by industrial companies to supply their own electricity needs. Captive power plants can be powered by a variety of fuels, including coal, natural gas, diesel, or biomass.

Gas Turbines

Gas turbines are a type of combustion engine that use natural gas, diesel, or other fuels to generate electricity. They are commonly used in industrial applications because of their high efficiency and reliability.

Coal-based Captive Power Plants

Coal-based captive power plants are commonly used in industries like cement, steel, and chemical production. These power plants use pulverized coal as fuel, which is burned in a boiler to generate steam that drives a turbine to generate electricity.

Pulverized Coal-Fired Boilers

Pulverized coal-fired boilers are a type of boiler commonly used in coal-based power plants. In this process, coal is pulverized into a fine powder and then burned in a boiler to generate steam. The steam drives a turbine that generates electricity.

Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC)

CFBC is a newer technology used in coal-based power plants. In this process, coal is burned in a fluidized bed, which creates a suspension of coal particles in the air. This allows for a more complete combustion of the coal and produces less pollution than traditional pulverized coal-fired boilers.

Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Combustion (AFBC)

AFBC is similar to CFBC, but the combustion takes place at atmospheric pressure rather than in a pressurized fluidized bed. AFBC is less efficient than CFBC, but it is easier to operate and maintain.
These are just a few examples of the industrial power and steam generation processes and technologies that have been used over time. As new technologies emerge and energy needs change, it’s likely that we will continue to see advancements in this field

IPP Independent Power Producer

Ultra-large single-unit coal-fired power plants have become increasingly common in recent years. These plants have a capacity of 1000 MW or more and are designed to be highly efficient and cost-effective. They typically use advanced technologies like ultra-supercritical boilers and are often built in regions with high energy demand, such as China and India.

The BiC Experience with Power and Steam Generation.

Captive power plants in India typically operate using coal or oil and gas, depending on the cost of fuel. While coal is a popular choice, the oil and gas sector operates using either Naptha/Diesel or gas, both of which have a higher cost of operation. To ensure reliability and safety, it’s crucial to have a dependable installation base that’s about 30% higher in terms of units and capacity. Cost of operation is also a major concern, making it important to focus on reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

The Bhuri Industrial Consulting Private Limited (BiC) team has extensive experience working with all types of technology currently in operation, like captive cogeneration including coal-fired boilers such as AFBC, CFBC, PF, gas turbines, HRSG, oil-fired boilers, and more. They have the capacity to provide solutions for captive plants ranging from 40 TPH to 750 TPH, with turbines from 20 MW to 110 MW. The team is well-versed in complex configurations, including those used in the cement, soda ash, oil and gas, and fertilizer industries. You can rely on the team to ensure the reliability of individual units as well as overall reliability.

BiC has extensive experience in all aspects of Independent Power Producer (IPP) operations, from conceptualization to commissioning, including subcritical and supercritical plants. One of the major challenges in this field is the quality of fuel and oil, where cost is a critical factor since it’s a competitive and fixed-cost operation. The reliability of operations can be impacted by issues like high-ash coal, which the BiC team has acquired expertise in handling through hands-on experience.

Training and development of personnel is a crucial aspect of ensuring reliability across captive power plants (CPP) and IPPs. BiC has a team of experts who are capable of providing comprehensive training and development to both experienced and new personnel in this field. With BiC, you can be assured of reliable and safe operations, regardless of the challenges posed by the fuel, oil, and other operational factors.
